Today I talked to a dear friend, who is like a brother to me and I was shocked as he told be about him having ASD (Atrial Septal Defect) - for those who don´t know what that means: He has a hole in his heart which can be lethal!
I asked him, why he isn´t undergoing a surgery to fix it and he answered it´s too expensive, like $300.000, and he has no full health insurance nor the money to pay for it.
WTF?!?!
Even that patients aren´t treated properly (IF they´re lucky to be treatened) when they´re going to the hospital as an EMERGENCY!
In Germany they would be SUED because of non-assistance of a person in danger!
HELLO?!?!?!?!
Aren´t doctors over there having the slightest bit of HONOR? They´re DOCTORS for Gods sake! To HELP people not drooling for their money!
And who thought of that sick medical system allowing only rich people to stay really healthy?
Health shouldn´t be just a privilege to rich people, it should be open to EVERYONE!

Graaa, that makes me SICK and I wish more than ever to be RICH to pay this for him! *runs around and punshes the wall on the other side of the room*

  • Watching: J.A.G. *loves*
  • Eating: leftovers form yesterday

ASD? That's sure a thing. Too bad, I feel sorry for your friend. Is it developing right now or is it an all-life charge? I had ASD and now I'm the proud owner of a scar on my chest because of surgery (looks like Frankenstein's n_n lol). I consider it rare to not stop it at time. I mean...if this was detected time ago,I find it weird they didn't do a thing. I'm talking about much time anyway. If this is developing now,then...well. It's not mortal if you catch it in time and else. In fact...I find really weird your health system is that way. I always thought things there were more 'fair', or something like that. That everybody had a place, specially in this kind of matter.
There should be something to do about it anyway =( I don't think you are all lost. Are you sure your friend can't go to some kind of wait-list nor ask some org. for help? Maybe the insurance can help in any way in the end or cover just a part of the surgery. Not much, but still...something.

Hope your friend gets well soon. Give him a hug for me =D and tell him to laugh that if he happen to be in a surgery room, a scar on the chest is not the end of the world XDXD (Just people asking what's that XD)

Kisses!

If i remember correctly he was diagnosed when he was 11. he´s 23 now. the doctor told him once he can be lucky reaching the 30s.
in germany it is like that, but my friend lives in america and when you lack the money no one´s helping you. it seems like the life of poor people is worth nothing there.

you had ASD, too? i´m glad you´re ok now >___< :glomp:

It's the same with me, in a sense. This past November, I got really sick. Many doctors refuse to see you if you have no insurance--even if you have cash, they won't even look at you if you have no insurance. I was ill for about a month before I finally started feeling better.

It really isn't fair that things here have to be that way (I live in the United States). And even if you have insurance here, they will ONLY cover a certain portion of your expenses, and you are left to pay for the rest.

Was? Auch noch Ami-land? Also wirklich?
